Today is the FIRST DAY OF SENIOR YEAR for les verty femmes. I suppose we will be posting later of our first day ADVENTURES, etc.

Finally
Well, tomorrow is a big day for Les Verty Femmes.
Finally we will be posting solely from Columbia SC as we prepare for our first day as USC SENIORS. Neither of us can believe that college has been so fast an experience; hopefully we will be able to drag our feet about to a degree this year!
Can’t wait to adorn our Capitol City as permanent fixtures (at least until grad. day),

Tonight is for the telescopes as Neptune comes into opposition (meaning that Earth is in the middle & Neptune and the sun are on opposite sides).
Look to the south with your telescopes in front of the constellation Capricornus.

Famous Hot Tea Recipe
This is the coolest recipe for hot tea! No sweetener is added, yet the liquid is ‘golden’ when you swallow!
What you’ll need:
1. reusable loose-tea sachets (or a loose tea holder)
2. 3 tsp. dried peppermint leaves
3. 2 tsp. dried sweet basil leaves
4. 1 tbsp. licorice root (preferably not in stick form—fyi, doesn’t taste like licorice!)
Put ingredients in sachet...

Tonight's Sky
In about 30 minutes, Earth will move between Jupiter and the Sun putting Jupiter into a state of opposition. While Jupiter is no where near as bright as a star, it will shine it’s brightest, and biggest display since the century began.
It will rise at sunset and be out all night as the sky’s brightest star (planet), until Venus (the morning star) shines before dawn.

Urban Archaeology in Columbia
July 11, 2009 - January 16, 2010
Urban Archaeology is a specialized field that studies people who lived in towns and cities. Archaeologists interpret human behavior through the material remains used by people during their lives. Material culture, objects used and produced by cultures, left behind by urban people in the past can give us a better understanding of the...

Freezing Fruits
For those interested in the tradition of freezing, I thought I’d include a short beginner’s guide.

Freezing with canning jars, freezer bags, aluminum foil, or thick plastic containers.
For this guide, we will be using canning jars (glass Mason jars can be found at most grocery stores in the produce or tupperware sections).

Homogenized basically means that the milk fat and water found within milk has been chemically altered so that the cream does not rise to the top. This also means that the milk, which should be...

Coq Au Vin
College ‘Coq Au Vin’
This traditional french dish is said to have originated in almost every province in France—the translation is Cock with Wine (obviously being Gamecocks, we had to start our recipe box with this!). Verty Femmes have yet to find Cock being sold in any store in Columbia SC (and rightly so, if you ask us) so we will be changing the recipe a bit to include just plain chicken.

New on the Block
As summer vacation is winding down (and the moving boxes are piling up), my new roommate and I have started planning for our last year of college life. The neighborhood we’re going to be living in is on the more ‘conservative’ side of Columbia SC, but still offers a wide array of interesting people & influencing agendas.
As a project for our final year, we’re going to be keeping a blog of...
